Singapore is regarded as both a city and a country and is an island situated just south of Malaysia. It is a former British colony and is regarded as being one of the most modern countries in the world Pierdom. Indeed the skyline is filled with large tower blocks, with new ones being built all the time. So why is Singapore such a popular holiday destination?
Well for a start the climate is very favourable all year round with temperatures ranging from 23 to 31 degrees celsius on average. The hottest months of the year are May and June, although every month is fairly similar because of it’s proximity to the equator. Sadly it is not wall-to-wall sunshine, however, as the country receives a lot of rain all year round, particularly in November, December and January.
Singapore does have a few beaches, but it is not the beaches that people come to see. People come to Singapore to sample a different culture, to soak up the history and to check out all the various different tourist attractions.
Just like many other holiday destinations, there are plenty of cultural interests such as museums, monuments and temples, as well as various different festivals held throughout the year. There are also specific areas of Singapore that are worth checking out such as Chinatown and Little India that will really give you a good idea of the ethnic diversity of this historic country.
